Student opportunities
IISC extending links in Cuba
IISC Director Stephen Wilkinson held talks on Wednesday 9 February with the University of Las Villas ‘Marta Abreu’ to develop ways in which the Institute at the University of Buckingham can work with this highly successful institution situated in the centre of the island near the historic city of Santa Clara.
With more than 12,000 students and 15 Research Centres, ‘Marta Abreu’ has developed a huge reputation since its foundation 70 years ago. Pictured here is Dr Wilkinson talking with the Rectora of the University, Dra Osana Molerio Pérez and her team including the Vice-rector, Dr Luis Barranco Olivera.
Among the projects discussed was the possibility of using the University as a base for student visits and periods of study in disciplines as varied as computer science, languages and psychology. The University has a small hotel and good relations with a network of bed and breakfast proprietors where students can stay at a a reasonable cost.
The University of Buckingham study tour that is planned for September this year will stay at the University for two days of talks, visits and exchanges.
The meeting with the University was facilitated by the British Council Cuba which is supporting and assisting the IISC’s work to build further exchanges.
