Missile Crisis and Special Period - calls for papers
Journal plans special issues
The International Journal of Cuban Studies is planning two special editions and academics and writers are being asked to submit proposals for articles now.
The first special issue will commemorate the October Missile Crisis of 1962 and the second will examine the effects of the Special Period in time of peace on Cuba.
OCTOBER MISSILE CRISIS 50th ANNIVERSARY 2012
October 2012 sees the 50th anniversary of the October Missile Crisis of 1962. The Editorial Board of the International Journal of Cuban Studies is seeking articles on the event and any related topic for a special commemorative issue.
’THE SPECIAL PERIOD R.I.P.’ 2013
With the recent announcements of the ‘updating’ of the Cuban economic model, it is now broadly accepted that what was known as ‘The Special Period in a time of peace’ in Cuba is now ended. Beginning with the onset of the economic crisis following the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1990-1, the Special period lasted 20 years.
Papers and articles discussing the history, economic, political, cultural and social effects and consequences of the Special Period are now being welcomed for a special edition of the journal to be published in 2013.
